Game Report January 15th 2023 2XV

Match report 2XV 15 January 2023.
With the second half of the season upon us all the teams from our beloved Gezelschap were keen to get cracking again on the field. And what better way to start the second half of the season than with a Super Sunday?! Traditionally the 2XV kicked off the first match of Super Sunday, the weather forecast was grim, but kicking off at 11 has it’s advantages, one of them being that we still managed to play under dry conditions. Rugby Nederland had swapped around some competitions and 2XV is now in a pool with some clubs from around Amsterdam and that area. The first match of the second half the season was a classic student derby with the 2XV playing against the Amsterdam students of Ascrum. The match was an important one, as the 2XV needed to start the season of with a win if they wanted to compete
for the championship. During the warmup Merlijn keenly spotted that Ascrum had a lot of Young Dogs, this Merlijn could see by the special shirts they wore, and he concluded that the vast majority of the Ascrum team was made up of Young Dogs. It was a bit windy, and Ascrum had made the call that they wanted to receive the kick off, chose to do so facing against the wind, to put us in an even stronger
position Soon it was clear that the 2XV was physically the more dominant team and that we would dominate in the scrum. The first try for the L.S.R.G. 2XV was made by none other than Elvis. Elvis has grown to become our power wing and a steady producer of tries. With the first try in the bag Mees was getting a little too confident and cocky, and claimed that mentally it already was 10-0. The actual 10 was scored by Chris, charging across the field, putting the score on a 10-5. A few more tries were made, and it was a sign that the 2XV was dominating when some fat forward even scored a try. This fat forward, on closer inspection, turned out to be Rik!!! Unfortunately the teammanager could not keep track of all the tries because he was too busy carrying out tasks that normally would be carried by Young Dogs, whom were conspicuous in their absence. However, I did manage to see the following:
the 2XV had been dominated in the pack, and after two phases the ball was neatly passed to the backline, and eventually to the secretary, Lars Muller. Pride swelled inside me as I thought my adopted rugby son would score his first try and run a Zumba! By the looks of it Lars also thought the same thing, unfortunately he also caught a bout of try-line fever, making a knock-on of note, they way I have only
seen Jockers do when still was a Young Dog himself. So, Lars still has not scored a try, but with a strong win of 40-21 the 2XV is currently in 1st place and determined to hold on to that position for the remainder of the season!
And on that bombshell I shall end. 2XV shall play again on the 5th of February in Amstelveen against ARC 3.
