Honourable members of the LSRG,
Last Sunday the 1XV played already their third match in the second division plate poule. The Dukes 3 was the opponent. Last time we played them, we absolutely played them of the park but with a free weekend for the first team and a home advantage we knew we were up for a tough battle.
The game kicked off and we immediately noticed that this was a different side then we played last time. They added some big lumps to their forwards and a few players that distributed the ball well over the field. We chose to go against the wind in the first half and therefore we had a difficult time getting out of our own territory. They also made quite good use of the wind. We actually played quite well but we were not able to really get through their defensive lines. They sadly were able to capitulate on a few defensive and offensive errors and scored three times unanswered in the first
half. In the end of the first half we regrouped for a bit and Rens almost went the length of the field only being caught centimeters in front of the tryline.
The second half saw us get the ball more and because we now had the wind in the back we were able to get into the right position. Sadly we just had a bit of an offday again and we lost the ball quite a lot in attack. The initial plays were great but we just couldn’t finish the job. Just like the old sports laws goes, if it doesn’t happen on your side then it will happen on the other side, it occured. We were playing nice rugby but we just weren’t sharp and the snowball effect started to work on us. They started to play more confident and we lost it a bit. Even though we weren’t playing bad , they just got some soft tries in the end giving a score not resembling the balance on the field. End score 48-0…
To be honest, this was not our day and not our best effort to win the game. On a normal day we could have them but we just didn’t want it badly enough. People were hungover and they on the other hand were a bit juiced with second team players and first team players. Nonetheless, it was all upon ourselves that we lost this game. It’s now time to regroup and build towards the next games. This is all part of the growing process that we are in and next time we know how to handle these
situations again! Shout out goes out to the scrum, again it was really stable and got us nice platform to play from. Next to that to Bram who played his first match this season and didn’t show any sign of being rusty. As our man of the match, our rising prop/flanker Maas was selected! He showed again how to come from the bench and really give a power influx to the team. Next week REL at home on super Sunday!! This will be a great game to get back playing again!!
Always drifting,
Maurits
