Game Report March 12th 2023 Ladies XV

LSRG DXV 1 – Groot Mokum
It was an icy Sunday afternoon, two days after an actual snowstorm. There was happily no rain, but we were treated with an icy wind. Typical Super Sunday vibes, so we had many supporters along the line, and even the cheerleaders of ‘inclusive cheerleading’ were there to support the ladies. Some pre-game statistics: In the last two seasons, we’ve met Groot Mokum (GM) 4 times so far, of which we won 3 times. The numbers were in our favor. And, more numbers were in a our favor: Although full LSRG was around in large numbers, GM, unfortunately, was not. So we lent some of our feisty girls to them, and we were ready to play some ball.

Kick-off.
Only 2 minutes into the game, it was Myrthe who was able to make a break after a ruck and passed the ball to Zoe. Zoe outran the full defense line of GM and scored the first try. After kicking the conversion, it was 7-0. When playing close to the tryline, Myrthe finally saw a gap and made a try (with a little push from Yv). Yv wanted to show that she could do more than just being a ‘helper,’ and took a sprint over left and scored a try. Myrthe had the wind beneath her wings after a break on the midfield and ran half the field by herself (with the opponent in hot pursuit), scoring another try. Our attacks were solid and stable, winning ground meter by meter. When we finally reached that tryline again, Peppie made the final jump and scored a try. When the ball was transferred via the line, it came into the hands of Zoe. With a beautiful sidestep, she sent the opponent “het bos in,” ran the rest of the pitch by herself, and scored again another try. Next, Anso slalomed her way through the defense line and scored the next try. Following, after some great offloads, it was Yv who was able to
cross that line. After that, Anso gave a perfectly timed offload to Yv, who scored another try, ending the first half with 57-0.

Halftime.
Not much to say. Let’s go for the second half. If you want to watch the half-time
interview with the ref, please watch it at: https://youtu.be/GwncWSZl7mI?t=2825.
And the ladies were ready for another round. A nice interplay between Yv and Zoe led again to a try of Zoe. Next, it was Peppie, who could literally shake off her opponent and score a try. After a maul close to our 22, Anso just started running and was not to be caught, and scored another try. When the last play was announced, and the ball was kicked, Myrthe caught it and just ran passed them and was able to cross half of the field by herself, making her third try and the final try of the game, ending with
81-0.

What a game, what a game. It has been a while since we won with these large numbers. And although this was one of the more ‘easier’ games, we could still play our own game. Femke and Peppie seem to be everywhere. Iris showed her double-tackling skills again. I saw Annie jumping really high with her small legs to catch a ball. The unlimited scrums showed the power of the forwards again. There were ‘fast hands,’ great offloads, and significant attacks in general. And, with the very rough wind, some extra kudos to Zoe for kicking those conversions. Anso was crowned WOTM. GM chose all our players who subbed with them. Helena was chosen to be Vajayjay of the day, as she apparently forgot almost everything (except her head).

Try statistics:
Zoe 3x (and eight conversions)
Myrthe 3x
Yv 3x
Peppie 2x
Anso 2x

Currently, the ladies are in the shared first place of the promotion poule, with four wins and one loss. Next match, we will start with ‘the returns,’ but so far, it looks very promising for roadtopromotion. See you all next week at Palenpadje for our game against Groningen!
