The Leiden Defenders is an occasional team made up of a selection of talented players from Rugby Club DIOK and the Leidsch Studenten Rugby Gezelschap. Normally, RC DIOK and the L.S.R.G. are two separate rugby clubs that sometimes even compete against each other, but through an annual match against a hefty opponent, they get the chance to represent Leiden together. So they do so in the city colours, red and white, with the Leiden keys embroidered on the kit. In 2014, they played against the Netherlands B selection, and the year before versus Cambridge University. A high level of rugby and a nice interplay between Leiden's two rugby clubs is enjoyed.
