2XV

The 2XV is also known as the backbone of the 'gezelschap', it is the team where every new player of L.S.R.G. ends up unless they really already have a lot of experience. The 2XV is therefore a very mixed team with players fresh out of school starting their first year at Uni to seasoned students who know the feel of L.S.R.G. all too well, there even seem to be a few stray citizens playing with the 2XV who just can't seem to say goodbye to their student life. For the 2XV, it does not matter if you are 18 or 28, or even 32, it does not matter if you are big or small, fat, thin, muscular and fit. Rugby is for all shapes and sizes, and so is our 2XV. Under coach Merlijn Schreuder, 2XV has grown into a strong and close team, where boys who at the start of a rugby season had never touched a rugby ball, let alone made a decent tackle, have matured into full-fledged rugby players by the end of the same season. The 2XV has a mentality of work hard play hard, where commitment on the pitch is as important as the beers after the game and training.

Coaches

The 2XV has been led by coach Merlijn Schreuder for over two-and-a-half years. Merlijn started his rugby career with our Delft's counterpart -C, where he played around 5-6 years in the second row. During his active rugby years, Merlijn served as President of the Dutch Student Rugby Union. In 2020, Merlijn was approached by former President of the L.S.R.G., Douwe Kloppenborg, whether he wanted to coach the 2XV, after the previous coach, Steven Dubelaar, had made his comeback at 1XV.

As coach of 2XV, Merlijn has assembled a close team, with which he has managed to achieve the feat of playing in the second (geyl!) half of the 2022-2023 season with 2XV in the Cup competition for the 4th division championship, something the 2XV has not achieved for quite some time. As former President of the N.S.R.B., Merlijn knows better than anyone else the customs and traditions associated with student rugby, such as man of the match and dick of the day. This makes Merlijn the perfect coach of the 2XV; on the pitch there is serious rugby, afterwards in the 3rd half there is always time for a few beers.
